Abbey S. Meyers is the founder of NORD, the National Organization for Rare Diseases. Her son was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome, and that was her main motivation for founding NORD. Today, NORD is one of the most well known organizations for orphan drugs and orphan diseases.

Senator Orrin Hatch was a major innovator regarding orphan drugs. He played a serious role, advocating for the Orphan Drug Act of 1983. He strongly promoted the development of orphan drugs for rare diseases as treatment.

Henry Waxman also played a major role in getting the Orphan Drug Act passed. His actions, along with the actions of Orrin Hatch and Abbey Meyers, were impactful enough to get the act passed.

NORD, or the National Organization for Rare Disorders is one of the leading organizations for rare diseases in America today. This important organization compiles together information on rare diseases and enables patients to learn more about the rare disease that affecting them. The organization was founded by Abbey S. Meyers.
